Cylinder Head Gasket

- Feb 13, 2019-

The cylinder head gasket is installed between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, and its function is to ensure the sealing of the contact surface between the cylinder head and the cylinder block to prevent air leakage, water leakage and oil leakage.

The material of the cylinder head gasket should have a certain elasticity, which can compensate the unevenness of the joint surface to ensure the sealing, and at the same time, it has good heat resistance and pressure resistance, and does not burn or deform under high temperature and high pressure. At present, the copper pad-cotton structure cylinder pad is used more. Because of the copper skin, there are three layers of copper skin at the cuffs of the cotton cylinder pad, which is not easily deformed when pressed. Some engines also use a cylinder mat or a perforated steel plate that is woven at the center of the asbestos, and a cylinder head that is pressed with asbestos and a rubber binder on both sides.

When installing the cylinder head gasket, first check the quality and integrity of the cylinder head gasket. The holes on all cylinder head gaskets should be aligned with the holes in the cylinder block. Secondly, the cylinder head bolts should be well adhered to in strict accordance with the requirements of the manual. When tightening the cylinder head bolts, it must be carried out 2 to 3 times in a direction in which the center is symmetrically extended to the periphery, and the last time is tightened to the specified torque.
